The Storage Basement
You decide to find the basement, and after wandering the halls for nearly an hour, you find a corridor you hadn't seen before. It's a bit darker than the others, but you can hear the din of distant chatter. You make your way down the hall, and you begin to notice that it's becoming increasingly hard to see. You still hear the muffled voices, but you can't tell where it's coming from exactly.
You turn to your demon to ask them if they can hear it too, but they're gone.
Unsure whether to go back or continue, you trust your gut and keep going. You've braved worse things than a little darkness alone.
A light flickers to life beside you, and you find a metal plate with the words "Storage Basement" engraved on it. Alfie said something about how Sage was in the basement, setting up the summoning, right? You press your ear up to the door, and you swear you can hear the voices better. Without another thought, you pull the door open and walk through.
The darkness consumes you whole, but as the door shuts, a series of old lamps spark to life, lining something that looks more like a tunnel than a storage basement. The voices are much louder now, but you still can't quite hear what they're saying. You figure that Sage must be nearby, and if she's around, then it couldn't be that dangerous... right?
"No, not there! The copper wire... No, the OTHER copper wire-"
"Everything is copper!"
"But you were only working with one!"
"I'm working with ALL of them!"
You look around a corner, finding a woman with her arms crossed and rubbing her eyes with her thumb and middle finger. She looks frustrated, and the eight demons around her are all looking at her for instruction. They all have some mechanical parts in their hands - wires, cogs, plates, batteries, and such - and they do not seem to know what to do with any of them.
"I wish Alfie was here," the woman mutters.
"Sage," says a little chameleon on her shoulder. "Guest has arrived."
She looks over at you, surprised to see you. "Oh, hi!" she says, flustered. "I wasn't expecting anyone down here so soon. Uh, is this your first time summoning? Or do you already have a demon?"
