Welcome to the Cabinet of Curiosities:
a Demonathon Adventure!
Here's everything you need to know
The Grand Hotel is a time for FUN and EXPLORATION! Thus, we've done our best to ensure that you can take this as leisurely as you like!
All the rules for the readathon are generally the same.
However, if you are summoning a demon for the first time, summoning a NEW demon, or attempting Hard Mode, the rules change slightly. (See below!)
If you already have a demon from previous Demonathons and do not wish to summon more, here are your rules:

Sign the book! This will sign you up for the readathon and make sure I can email you the ending when we're all finished ;)

To find the challenges, you will have to enter The Disappearing Library, and see the adventure there! A familiar face has decided to drop in, and he needs a few recommendations. There will be a new poll to take every few days, and your choices will determine which challenges everyone gets!

To find the reading prompts, you will have to enter The Exhibition! Navigate the halls to meet demons, gods, and spirits along the way. They will give you prompts and challenges to fulfill.

While there are many prompts, you may attempt to complete as many or as few as you wish.

You are allowed to use a book for more than one prompt. There is no limit to how many prompts a book may cover.

If you are doing another readathon, you may use those books as long as they fit the prompt(s).

Additionally, in the Cabinets you will find Helper Demons along the way. These Helper Demons allow you to alter certain aspects of your readathon if you wish. You may use each Helper Demon once! (And you do not have to use them at all if you don't want to!)

The Group Read is "A Softness of the Heart" by Lulu Kadhim which is free to read or listen to online.

Please keep track of your reading by using the spreadsheet! Please make a copy of the spreadsheet in Google Sheets and save it with your name on it. You'll need this to access the ENDING to the readathon! The points are just there for fun! (If you want the point breakdown, please see below.)

The readathon begins September 1st and ends at midnight on September 30th (your local time).

You can turn in your spreadsheet through October 1st! The turn-in will be available at the Cafe toward the end of the readathon. The link and password to your ending will be emailed to you on October 2nd!

THE POINTS MATTER. There is a secret number of points you need to complete in order to secure your contract with your demon (it's not hard, I promise!)

Every book completed is 10 points

Every page read is worth 1 point

Every book written by a POC or other marginalized group is with 5 extra points

Every challenge completed is worth 5 points

If you do not finish a book, the 10 points do not count, but please include every page you finished!

If you are using ebooks or audiobooks, please refer to Goodreads or your favorite book tracker. Use the most current page count if there are multiple editions.

Anyone can do hard mode, whether you are a newbie or a veteran summoner.

Sign the book, and make sure you declare that you are doing Hard Mode! This will sign you up for the readathon and make sure I can email you the ending when we're all finished ;)
