Into the Void

Your heart races as you approach the swirling darkness. The flashes of light make you nervous, but others have gone before you... and have been spit back out, as well. Some of the other summoners have not yet come back, but some back gone in and out a dozen times already. It's time to try your luck.

You step into the portal, and your skin feels like it's been stretched so thin it might break. You yell and fumble in the air, reaching for anything that might stop you from falling and stretching. The vacuum of the void hurts, but you are too much in a panic to really feel the pain. In the darkness, there is so much light, but also too little. Anxiety spikes up and falls away in quick succession, and with it comes a torrent of emotions that you cannot control. There is no reason for the feeling, no sense of what caused such rage and love and joy and sadness within you. It is all too much, and you feel so numb by the end of it that you wish it would continue.

Your head spins, but you are on your feet. Kind of. There is no floor beneath you, but you are standing on something solid. All around you is space: galaxies, stars, planets, moons, and so, so much blackness. It is silent, it has no smell, it feels like nothing.

"Hello?" you say to the void.

"Hello," it says back.

You ask if it has a challenge for you, and the void asks it right back. You ask who it is, and it asks it right back. You ask why is it copying you, and the void simply asks the same question. Again.

"Give me a challenge!" you demand, impatient. Nothing makes sense, and you have nowhere to go. You don't even know how to get back to the summoning circle and your demon...

The void laughs. "Tell me who the wintery demon who took over the Summoning one Earth year ago," it demands.

You have no idea why demanding worked, but it worked...

Who is this mystery demon?
